Children's Rights

All children, all over the world deserve the same good rights that the children of Nelson Central School have, Some poor children don’t have the same rights as us. They should have healthy food, a strong shelter, clean water and good medical care. Some poor people don’t get that.

We have been learning about the children of Kroo Bay. Kroo Bay is a slum community in Africa. The people of Kroo Bay don’t have a healthy shelter. Their homes have holes in them so mosquitoes get in and cause malaria. When it rains, water gets in the holes.

In Kroo Bay the people cook their food outside on three big stones, some sticks and coal. They eat the pigs from the Crocodile River but since the pigs are eating rubbish from the river, the children that eat the pigs get sick.
Save the Children helps children in countries like Kroo Bay and all around the world. I would` like to buy something plumpy for a month from
Save the Children wish list. Plumpynut is $70 and comes fully prepared so there is no chance of it getting mixed with dirty water.

How to Make a Fossil

In Room 5 we made fossils because they are so rare. If you want to make one, this is what you need.
Clay,
Plaster of Paris,
Black paint,
An old cloth,
Shells,
Some wire,
And a little plastic container.
This is what you do.
First you press the clay into the plastic container with your thumb. Keep pressing until it is 1½ cm deep.
Next you push the shell in the clay and then take it out again. Does it make a pattern? If it does not make a pattern, press down harder.
Later get an adult to mix and pour Plaster of Paris into the container. Pour it until it is 1½ - 2 cm deep.
Then get the piece of wire and twist it into a loop. Put
the loop into the plaster of Paris. Just make sure that
the circle is sticking out.
Leave for at least two days then take the Plaster of
Paris out of the container and let it dry for another couple of days.
After you dry it you need to spray paint it with your gold paint. Let it dry and after it dries you paint it with your black paint. Before it has a chance to dry, wipe it with an old cloth. Then if you want to you can varnish but we didn’t because it looks fine without.
Now it’s time to hang it on the wall.

Christchurch

This was my holiday. My family and I went to Christchurch. We went there on the first day of the school holidays. We went there because my mum’s dad lives there and we have not gone there in a long time. On the first day we went to Auntie Jo’s house. She had a friend called Allie who stayed there as well. She was really nice. When we got there Jojo and Allie were knitting a hat. That night my family went to a family reunion. When I came back I was so tired so we went to bed. The next morning Ethan went to the park but I stayed home to do my maths. We satyed at Jo’s for three nights. Then we went to my other auntie’s and Isla’s and Juliette’s house. Isla is eleven and Juliette is nine.
